Message Board
Introduction
Welcome to the Message Board! Here is where people can interact with each other and discuss various topics of interest! The Message Board can be accessed by the general public, and is a great place for those researching home education to post any questions they might have. The World Wide Web has SO much information available that it can be overwhelming when we're not sure exactly of "what" we're looking for....we hope this will be a helpful feature, and that it will prove to be a source of encouragement.
General Public Access Areas
If you see that a given Group is designated as "General Public" be aware that all members have access to it, including unverified members and the general public just surfing on over to the site. If you wish to discuss a topic with members whom you know personally, just specify your 'target audience' when you post on the Message Board. Again, our reasons for setting things up in this way are two-fold: 1) to protect members' privacy and give them as many options as possible, and 2) to make especially the Message Board accessible to new or non-resident homeschoolers. Please note that the General Public cannot post or reply, they can read only. To be able to do more, they must join the website.
Member Areas
Some of the key features of the Message Board include the provision of a certain level of privacy for members of the site in discussing various topics, while allowing others to explore home education by reading replies and asking questions. Here is how it works: the general public can view all major topic headings and read what is below those, but one must join the site in order to post a message or a question/ reply. Becoming a member is an immediate, automated process. If the new member is currently involved in home education and a resident of PEI, they are automatically placed within that "Group". The Groups and their members are what determine the level of access to various parts of the site, specifically as it relates to this Message Board and the Calendar of Events. Members will each be assigned to various User Groups by the moderator, once it can be ascertained that they meet the requirement for membership within a given Group. (see here for more details on this)
Posting
Posted messages are viewable only to the originator fifteen minutes after posting. This allows you to see how your post appears on the message board before committing to it. You are allowed to modify or delete the post up to fifteen minutes after the last modification. Once the fifteen minutes are up, they are viewable to the audience you have selected and can no longer be modified.
